A guide to the Ajerians
By: Shinta, with aid from: Eric, and Kasi
I. Introduction
You may or have may not noticed the revolution I’ve started accidently by arriving to the forum. With the coming of my character Arix many have joined the rebuilding of a dead race. This race is the Ajerian. What is an Ajerian?
A Brief History: Before the time of man and Lucifer in the realm of Hades within the Earth realm set in multiple realities there were a race of beings known as the Ajerians. They weren’t the first empire to hold power over Hell, but they were the strongest in their time and one of the longest. For 40,000 years they stood unopposed until the Abyss Army set foot into Hell itself and nearly wiped them out.
However, during the time of the Ajerians they had built gateways to many realms and realities and on the other side was always a city of silver. These cities were known by number, The First City, the Tenth City, and so on so forth. In their defeat, the Ajerians escaped through the gateway to the Tenth City, on the other side was the land of Castillia.
An Alternative History is portrayed in the Ajerian Wars Roleplay forum where I allowed anyone to create an Ajerian without understanding the history of my canon version of Castillia. Their History goes like so: ajerian.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1. To avoid confusion, I am not advertising, that forum has long since died out.
II. The Ajerian, The Judgment, The Bound
I have never found a perfect image of what the Ajerians would look like. I’ve come across lord Voldemort and sighed because he literally was my original design idea for them minus the snake eyes and the silly cliché nick name: He who must not be beaten by a wizard half his age with a quarter of his skill. However, the looks of the Ajerians and Judgment are exactly the same, granted the Ajerians typically had a light pinkish tan tone to their skin while the Judgment are ghost white.
This section will be split into two parts: Castillian and AW
Castillian:
The Ajerian: In Castillian lore there has only been one named living Ajerian so far in roleplay. He was Nephion, the Ajerian who bound himself to Latest to make himself one of the most powerful beings in existence. Not all Ajerians were like Nephion though, Alvion in his time learned the ways of Merjutsu and went on to protect his people with it, Exion in his time with his brother Edion held the gateway to the Tenth city until their deaths to ensure the escape of their fellow Ajerians.
The Ajerians were unbiased, they felt no gilt for the wrong they did, but they avoided all evil actions unless forced upon. When an Ajerian died their souls didn’t pass on to heaven, they were creations that defied the logical balance of everything, and with their nature of seeing none as a higher power they were denied all access to the heavens. For this in death they would become Judgment.
The Judgment: In the Ajerian tongue they are called Quortek, but because of the creative naming process of the lord Grindall they became known as the Judgment for they were his final verdict. They were dead souls who would wander restlessly clinging to master after master. The Judgment cannot die, their souls are broken and they are left to remain fragments for several years before they can rebuild their bodies physically.
The strongest of them had true thoughts and would become their leaders. The sole purpose of a Judgment is to find a being worthy enough to become Bound. However, this process is selective, the entire Judgment army could raid a city and make hundreds of bound beings, but that would cause an influx of good and evil between an Unbiased being. They find characteristics in a person and live with that person; one becomes a guardian of sorts until he believes they are ready to become Bound.
The Bound: In Castillian lore, 7000 years to the present day in Endgames Damien Latest became the first bound human. He still isn’t the oldest bound being in existence however. Latest was bound to a fully alive Ajerian making his power influx 20 times stronger than a normal binding of Judgment and Partner. Latest also has a life span twice a short as a normal bound person.
While the Bound are technically immortal, they have an expiration date depending on how frequently they use their powers. For Latest they days are numbered, if he was to go all out in one battle he could level miles and miles of land killing all in one wave and rush of power, but in return he would burn out and become Unbound killing him. With Arix who is nearly half the age of Latest, he may live to be ten thousand or lesser depending on the life he lives.
In Castillia the bound have certain characteristics that their AW counterparts do not usually have. Because of the lack of living Ajerians all bound must be created without a ceremony. This rough bindings cause defections such as Arix’s left arm and eyes, or Alistairs right arm and eyes. Because of this, they can put out more raw power than the AW Bound, but their life spans are significantly shorter. I will touch on the souls of both AW and Bound in the next section. Languages will also be covered in another section.
AW Ajerians:
The Ajerian: In the lands of AW there still live several thousand true Ajerians. They aren’t rare to find, but they are very spread out. In the lands across the seas to the far East live clans of Ajerians known as the Oeml’ail’goal, or Forsaken. In the central lands where most of AW took place lived the, Anmya Ilviameill, or True Ajerian. These Ajerians lived a much different life than their counterparts, but for the most part they were exactly the same physically.
The Judgment: They weren’t as mindless as their Castillian counterparts. They live by the same rules as Castillian Judgment, but they server as the army of Cyris Darkbroode. The Judgment here are loyal to a master but live lives as they did before their deaths. The biggest difference between them would be the caste system of Judgment. The elites wear good bits of armor over their cloaks. The casters wore just their robes while their grunt foundations wore light armor. For this reason a caste system was born, this caste system doesn’t exist as organized in Castillia, but it is present.
The Bound: With ceremonies done for their bound, they typically do not have defections such as burning eyes and limbs radiating power. Because of this tame and stable binding process they are typically not as strong as their Castillian counterparts. However, they live longer lives and are usually allowed to exist in two castes rather than one. Meaning a Bound can be a caster and a warrior rather than just a caster.
Also, the Ajerians from the AW reality do not use Merjutsu as their primary sword style, it was rare and called Liam viyan lay in AW, the difference between Castillian Merjutsu and Liam viyan lay was that Merjutsu is a complete style while Liam viyan lay was a high velocity sword style that was technically still unmatched, it does not compare to raw Merjutsu however. Liam viyan lay was relatively new to the Ajerians in AW as Arix barely had time to spread the knowledge of it. The masters of it truly were monsters though. Exion of AW was a master of Liam viyan lay, he held his castle for hundreds of years against constant Abyss assaults by himself.
Most Ajerians in AW used an altered form of Lakyemw Liillaanam. It was a very balanced and powerful art of war. It typically didn’t favor any one weapon over the other. It was created by the ancients to never favor one style of fighting over another.
Both Realities; The Unbound
The Unbound: Every Bound Ajerian has an end to life that leads here. They’ll know it when their raw power begins to crack through their skin and they begin to feel uncontrollable. The Bound ascend to godly hood during this brief period of time, by brief: less than a minute. When the Unbound stage occurs the body is stripped away and the raw energy releases as if it was a super nova. Typically the Ajerian Wars dying bound would go to the island of the dead where they would burn out saving many lives. In Castillian history, since Ajerians are rare from there, very few burn outs have happened.
III. The Ajerian Soul
The bound have a unique soul. It’s a shared vessel where the Ajerian soul and Human soul combine and become inseparable. With a duel soul the Ajerian becomes extremely difficult to read mentally for there are a thousand thoughts going through his head due to the other being in his mind. One may think they’re reading his mind but they may be reading the mind of the Ajerian itself.
Certain things also do not work on the Ajerian after the binding. For instance, soul stealing of any kind cannot happen. For there are two souls within the body and they cannot be spliced apart. And to exist, the Ajerian soul must be part of the body, making it impossible to remove either one. Once you are bound, you can never go back to being human.
IV. The Language of the Ajerians
For the last 5-6 years I’ve used a Drow translator to stand in as the language of the Castillian Ajerians in their ‘native’ tongue. Usually Arix only spoke in Ajerian to command the Judgment without anyone catching wind of his orders. Alistair says incantations in Ajerian because he’s bawse. However, the language of the AW Ajerians is different, Angel, the person who played Cyris who lead the Ajerians on that forum decided it only fair to give them their own language if they were going to be so different than my original.
In English: "Kill them, Leave none alive."
Arix would say, "Elgg mina, sevir naust dro."
Cyris would say, "Goecc anirali, cailela lela ilceela."
Angel gave the AW Iteration of Ajerians a more elegant tone of voice, when they spoke it wasn’t rough and German sounding like Castillian Ajerians, it was more like Italian. The words are also longer and spoken much faster than the Ajerian iteration of the language. If an AW Ajerian and a Castillian Ajerian tried to converse in their native tongues they would most likely kill one another for insulting their language.
The Castillian Ajerians language is said to be borrowed, as it shares the same words as the Merjutsu special attack names. How old it actually is, is unknown. The AW Ajerians language is their own. Outside of the Castillian Ajerians there are roughly 10 non-Ajerians who speak their language, of them: Amilia, Kasami, Naoko (but she has a vow of silence), The Sword Master who created Merjutsu, and several others unknown.
V. Abilities
The Normal Ajerian is a faster creature. Its success was in its speed, its agility, and its reaction times. This is carried over into their Bound counterparts.
The Ajerians were never known for their strength. They are indeed powerful, but what makes them truly deadly is their ability to out quick their foes. Most Ajerians utilize their skill with a sword and their style of combat and kill their foes before they can raise a defense.
The Castillian Ajerians were stronger than their AW brethren because of their usage of Merjutsu. The style alone is taxing on the body and requires a very fit person to use. Using it in combat and in practice alone causes the muscles to build up, but the style had a flaw in that it can strain the body enough to do permanent damage if any single attack was used wrong.
The Bound of these sets of Ajerians took on their properties. The exceptions were Arix and Cyris. Arix after becoming Bound took to making his body as strong as possible against his bodies wishes. Cyris could mentally alter her body’s abilities to a degree. If she needed to be faster she could make it happen, if she needed to be stronger, she would make it happen. However, Cyris was a very inferior swordsman compared to many under her.
VI. Powers
All Bound have an element they follow to some degree. For Arix it is darkness, for Alistair it is fire, for Cyris it was reality. They also follow a theme that their element has. Arix’s weapons are Umbra which can control the darkness, Alistair’s aura is Red and he matches it with his dress code. Cyris likes to rip people’s legs off, kill their horses, and bend them backwards killing them with her mind.
The types of powers follow the caste the Ajerian is in, the caste system will follow this section. For instance, Arix was of the Unbiased Caste, his abilities range in the caster area as well as the warrior area. He is inferior in power compared to Alistair who is of the Caster caste in terms of power.
Arix’s abilities: He can summon barriers to temporarily protect him, he can launch energy from his left arm, and he is extremely handy with a sword rivaling the most deadly sword users he’s come across so far, even the Ookami.
Cyris was of the caster class, she was the most powerful Bound Ajerian during her time period in terms of casters. Her abilities allowed her to will away most life forms, cause mass suicide between the units of the Abyss, kill their general without lifting a finger, match the goliath Barith in sword combat by amplifying her natural abilities, and even went on to face their leader in a battle of wills.
No single Ajerian is the same. They all have different powers and while some share elements such as fire, light, darkness, lightning, they utilize it differently. One Ajerian may use lightning to harm an enemy, the other may use it to aid in healing and defending allies.
VII. Castes
The Castillian Ajerians didn’t have a caste system after the fall of their empire. The Judgment were all the same, drones of war. However, castes still existed during the empires time. In AW, because the Ajerians were so available and well known, they used their caste system to the fullest.
The Castes:
Warrior: Usually they are physically unmatched by other Ajerian castes. They are weaker in the department of Casters, but can overpower and outmatch their other brothers in a heartbeat. They are typically the image of physical health. There are more Warriors in Castillian Ajerians than anything else.
Casters: The most vile and nasty of the Ajerian castes because they were addicted to their power. The bound casters live shorter lives because of this. They can amplify their bodies to aid in combat at the cost of power elsewhere.
Rangers: These warriors are not very push overs in close range, even if they are implied to be long range units. With the invention of the gun they have become extremely deadly inside and outside their range. They are extremely accurate with their weapons. Rangers are rare with Castillian Ajerians.
Assassin: The warriors of the shadows. They are very rare in the modern times with assassinations becoming harder to pull off from the shadows, so these warriors have redesigned killing in broad daylight. They are a mixture of Rangers and Warriors but cannot compare to either in terms of one skill or another, they also use caster abilities to some degree in attempts to escape.
The Unbiased: There has only been one unbiased warrior so far, he is Arix Himura. The Unbiased are rare in that they typically lead the Ajerians when they are around. Without them, the ranks of the Ajerians swell depending on the caste that leads them.
VIII. Weapons
There’s a difference between Ajerians in Castillia and AW in the department of weapons. Castillian Ajerians typically use Swords and nothing else due their combat style. AW Ajerians use many types of weapons from swords, bows, staves, machetes, etc.
Of AW, Yion: While he was mostly a machine with a Judgment core (it was his way of considering himself Bound) he used an electric staff.
Alex used a Machete.
Exion the Ajerian left hand of Cyris used a sword and shield.
In Castillia the Colt 1911 was introduced sometime 2000 years after Arix left and had become one of the main weapons of the people there. It was unknown how exactly it got there, but it has one Ajerian user in, Alistair Black.
Castillian Ajerians typically hunt for rare empowered weapons that have special properties, it is a natural thing for them because the Ajerian soul is restless in them to try and find relics of their lost empire. AW Ajerians use their weapons and use their powers to empower them. In the hands of a caster most weapons become a nightmare.
Alistair may not be the most accurate person with his Colt 1911, but when he fires it typically hits the person with the impact of a high powered rifle.
IX. Armor and Clothing
There is a saying I typically throw out when someone thinks of making an Ajerian and that’s: Are you going for the Traditional Ajerian or the New Generation.
The difference.
The Traditional Ajerian: Arix and Demetrios are the best examples of this. They fight in full armor. While the same may not be said for Demetrios, Arix has the old school attitude of the Traditional Ajerian, he is cocky, he’s a smartass, but he is honorable when he wants to be. He is unbiased in his opinions and will typically speak his mind freely no matter the repercussion. Yes Ladies, if you ask him, “Do I look fat in this dress.” He will give you an honest answer, and that’s, “You look fat in everything.”
The New Gen Ajerian: They wear mostly clothing, or modern clothing as their battle attire. Cyris was a victim of this. She wore essentially something similar to what Cloud Strife wore, granted it was skirted, sleeveless, and different in design; it still had the leather meets turtle neck look to it. The New Gen do occasionally wear armor, but it’s usually light armor or something to the modern generation such as Kevlar.
Castillian Ajerians seem to have an attachment to their Armor. When Arix’s armor was broken alongside his sword, he forged the fragments into two blades using his armor for added metal. He went on to forge a new demon metal armor.
X. FAQ
These questions may or may not have been asked in the last 6 years. Either way they’re to clear some things up.
Q. Can I play an Ajerian?
A. Originally I’d of said no because I didn’t have the AW forums created at the time and the story of Castillia was something I alone wanted to expand on. Now Yes, you may create one within the realm of AW, I only ask that you ask me before hand so I can look over your bio and guide you a bit in the event that you make a mistake.
Also, considering there’s Ajerians here now, you can create a character that is to be Bound later on in roleplay and I will gladly play your Judgment if you wish, you may also play him yourself, I don’t really care.
Q. Do you look over the Bios of the Ajerians?
A. Typically yes. I don’t do it because I think you suck, I do it just so I can point out some things you may have missed or to touch up on certain things. I do not accept or deny bios, I am only here to guide you into properly not muddying my races waters.
Q. Where did the idea for the Judgment come from?
A. I didn’t originally call the Judgment Ajerians. Originally I called Arix the Ajerian King with his legion of Judgment because it sounded spiffy. The Ajerians date back to 2004/2005 on the SW RPG Relm (not a typo). Originally Angel came up with the Ajerians as a space faring race that attacked the Dematri Empire, they were skeletal beings that were large and thin, their bodies so thin you could see most of their skeleton. When I made Godlike Arix in 2006 his Judgment were just ghost warriors.
I’ve since lost the original history to them but it mirrored my current Arix’s history but it was much more dark and evil. When Endgames came out I literally flipped a coin heads good Arix tails bad Arix. It was heads so I rewrote all the history and expanded on the Ajerian lore. I’ve since continued expanding on them when I started up on this forum after an extended absence. Since my return I’ve literally spent two weeks just expanding the lore of Merjutsu and the Ajerians explaining everything and filling in plot holes.
After a bit of looking, I found the first 4 chapters of the original history. I may edit it up a bit to match my current writing style and re-finish the last two chapters of it that are missing and edit some of it to match the history of Legacy.
Q. Castillia. Where did the concept for the land come from?
A. In 2005 a book called The Land of Elyon: The Dark Hills Divide came out. I would recommend reading the series of Elyon. But with the first book came a map. At the time I lacked the creative mind to come up with my own land so I borrowed Elyons lands and a few concepts from them. For instance, in the books the evil King Grindal of Castilia had an army of Giants at his side to cause terror.
In my land of Castillia Grindall has an army of Judgment as his fingertips through an artifact. To this day I do not claim to have created Castillia or any of the towns I named in Arix’s bio. However, I rewrote some places like the Tenth city and continued to use their concept. I won’t spoil anything in the books further, but in my last rewrite of Arix’s history I barrowed many elements from the entire series. I consider Arix’s bio a ‘fan fiction’ of the Land of Elyon to some small degree.
Further-more in the end of Arix’s bio all the cities in the land aside from Castillia had been destroyed, save the Tenth city. Castillia would take over and create the continent of Castillia in my works.
Q. Can I expand on Castillia?
A. No. I only allow close people to me like Eric and Frosty to expand on things like that because I know their writing style and I know they’ll do it creative justice. Every bio written in Castillia that I approve as canon to my story is added to the history of Castillia itself. It’s a side project of mine. So far I have 3 Bios there, 2 full stories, 1 short story. Maybe one day if you stick around and become known as one of us I might let you expand on my project.
Q. What’s the name of the Ajerian Wars world?
A. ……… I don’t know. I call it by random names like: Alternate Earth, Bellum Abysus, Castillia 0.5, etc.
Q. How do you pick Ajerian names?
A. The first Ajerian names were Exion and Edion. Since then: Alvion, Yion, Nepharion, etc. If you’re not slow you’ll notice the pattern of –ion at the end of every name. This was originally done to make things easier for me if I needed to make a random NPC. But it’s stuck as a naming pattern. So how do I pick Ajerian names? I sit in my chair and spin saying random things with –ion on the back of it until something clicks. In my original bio when I named certain characters it was King Edion and Princess Elyion, it kind of stuck as tradition to the original story.
Q. How do you pronounce Ajerian names?
A. Never been asked this question but I figured I’d make it anyways. The common rule is that it needs to have as few syllables as possible. Exion, Edion, Alvion, Yion, all are said in one stride. Exeon, Eddyon, Alveon, Eon, would be how they’d be said if you were to spell them out.
Q. Merjutsu?
A. In 2005 Kasami/Kasi created Merjutsu on Final Fantasy Advent Darkness. It was a hand to hand combat style that utilized body as much as weapon. Considering the idea behind having a style with a lot of attacks, counters, and alternative attacks it was extremely deadly. Originally there was a large ass file that had all the names of attacks and what not, that has been lost to time and the file is being rewrote. The ‘masters’ of the style Kasi and Myself remember every move of the style and are expanding on its lore and all of that.
Q. What is the lore behind it?
A. Long time ago two people made a fighting style and kicked ass. The end. No seriously, that’ll be covered in another section later on when the lore is complete.
Q. AW Ajerians can use Merjutsu right?
A. Wrong. They can use: Liam viyan lay. But I’m not going to let every mo walk in and create an Ajerian and use the sacred style of ass kickery. Liam viyan lay is a broken version of Merjutsu, it’s incomplete and anyone I think is worthy to claim to use it must complete the style through roleplay.
Liam viyan lay vs Merjutsu. Say you had Joe the Ajerian from Castillia who uses Merjutsu and you have Joe the Ajerian from AW who uses Liam viyan lay. It’s not like Liam viyan lay cannot beat Merjutsu, but Joe from Castillia has a major advantage over Joe from AW. Why? Because Merjutsu is the primary sword style for Joe of Castillia, it’s the only sword he’s ever used. Joe of AW uses a rusty Liam viyan lay style that’s not finished and is not squared away like Merjutsu.
Basically, I’m saying is make a point to roleplay your character properly, if you walk up to Arix and fight him with Liam viyan lay, he’s going to out-class you at every turn possible. That’s typically when you try to finish the sword style.
Q. What’s the point of having an over powered sword style?
A. It’s not over powered. Word of mouth carries between person to person and it’s been made to sound like it’s just that powerful. It’s only as good as the user allows it. If you didn’t know a thing about Merjutsu or any of its attacks then you’re just a guy with a sword. The point of making a combat style with attacks was to give a name to nameless sword styles that everyone uses.
It’s no more over powered than the Sparda or Dante that actually uses their styles such as redguard and the likes as they would normally use them. In the past 6 years there’s been 3 things feared because of word of mouth: Eric, Merjutsu, Gui’s Eyes.
Q. The Ajerian Language?
A. Like I said, it’s Drow. You can easily find the Castillian language by going to google and searching: Drow Translator. Angel’s iteration is harder to find by tenfold because you have to type: Drow Language, and no one ever thinks of that. There’s actually a problem with Angel’s Drow Translator (which I’m not naming or linking find it yourself =D) and that’s that you can’t translate from Drow to Common. But that’s fine, we made a system called: WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU SAY?!
Q. Pancakes?
A. Yes please, I like chocolate chips and bacon in them.
XI. Conclusion
This guide is extremely incomplete and technically a rough draft. I wrote it to help people understand the race I created some 5 years ago that’s stuck with the old crew through the years. This isn’t something that just popped up, I’ve played Arix for 6 years now, and for 5 years I’ve played the Ajerian King himself. The Judgment have been altered over the years but in the last 3 years I’ve gotten them how I like them and how everyone knows them. In the end, I’ve made a giant lore to a race of beings that is considered canon to the Dead Sight, Endgames, and DoA crew.
I have created the Ajerian Legacy.
